This week I continued working on my aim when shooting on net. I think even in the week I have been practicing I have gotten better. There is still more work that needs to be done to truly improve my ability, but I have seen small improvements since I started working on my aim.

In addition to working on shooting, I continued to play competitive matches to continue climbing the ranks as the training comes to a close and I work toward my final evaluation of my skill. I still seem to be stuck in the high end of Silver 2, very close to bumping up tot Silver 3, but not quite able to meet that next level. I am hoping that by the end I will be able to reach that rank.

Automaticity of Controls

I also noticed something interesting this week. I seem to have confirmed automaticity of the motor controls used to play Rocket League! Recently, I have been playing different games on the Nintendo Switch, and it wasn’t until I went back to playing Rocket League with an Xbox controller that I realized the automaticity I have achieved.

The Xbox controller and Nintendo Switch are shown below:

On the Xbox controller, the “A” button is in the bottom location and the “B” button is in the right location, however the orientation is reversed on the Nintendo Switch.

This may not seem very crucial, but “A” is typically used to accept prompts in games, whereas “B” is used to go back or cancel. Specific to Rocket League, I have my controls set so that “A” is used to jump, and “B” is not used for anything. However, when I went to play Rocket League after using the Switch, there was a moment where I froze to re-evaluate where the “jump” button was, thinking that I was still using the Switch. However, my fingers automatically used the “A” button in the correct location on the Xbox controller. I thought it was interesting how even though my brain froze, my fingers knew exactly what to do with the system I was using.

Even though the whole task of playing Rocket League isn’t anywhere close to being automatized, it was a small victory to see that the motor control aspect is.
